A fascinating memoir and look into the FLDS freakshow (not to be confused with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who have nothing to do with this group and have been very outspoken about the FLDS's heinous and unlawful ways). It was really interesting to see into family dynamics in a polygamist household and my heart just ached at the helplessness of the women and children to do anything about their situations without taking drastic measures. It also chronicled the reign of Warren Jeffs (Yes, that sicko who is finally locked up for raping children and incest). Scary that a group like that can exist in the US today... and it still does!

Ms. Jessop details her life from being forced into a marriage at 18 to a 50 year old man (barf!) to her unbelievable escape with all 8 of her children (she was only in her early 30's) and how she was finally able to make her situation permanent.

The writing was simple, without flourish, but the story itself was enough to keep the reader interested and drove the story forward quickly. I would have given more stars if the writing was better.
