I loved this series as a kid. I read them a few times.
So, I decided to start reading them to my 8-year-old (the 11-year-old has been caught eavesdropping ;) ). This book wasn't nearly as good as I remember. The boy was so-so on it, but does want to go on to book #2--but I think it's because he wants to see the movie, and them's the house rules. Read, then watch.
I also did not remember how easy to read these books are. Easy for the 11-year-old, but he doesn't care enough. He prefers oddball/funny stories, not adventure of nay kind.
