William Kent Krueger has got me hooked. I have every intention of reading all of his 10 mysteries. The first book of his that I read was "Vermillion Mist" and found it so fascinating that I have now gone back to his first book, "Iron Lake".

This series takes place in the town of Aurora, Minnesota. A small town located in the sparsely populated backwoods that is more suited to the local Indian tribe. The stories revolve around Cork O'Connor, sometime sheriff, sometimes not, who becomes involved with murder and the ways of the Anishinaabe Indians.

Cork becomes involved when a young Indian boy is discovered missing and Judge Parrant is found dead. The Judge's death is ruled a suicide, but Cork finds evidence that it might be murder and may have some connection to the boy's disappearance.

Cork, although having no authority, becomes deeply involved in the case, because of his commitment to justice and the rights of the Anishinaabe.

Cork, who has been separated from his wife and children, finds that his involvement may be bringing him and his wife back together again. Well, that is until some damaging photographs are discovered that implicate impropriety on both their parts. The photos also show many indiscretions of just about everyone living in Aurora.

The plot gets thicker as the reader gets further into the book. The number of suspects increase with every turn of the page. Making matters worse, every time the reader and Cork think they are on the right track and have a good suspect, that person winds up dead.

Great stuff tht incorporates a small town, Indian mysticism, bribery, double crosses, murder, and the cold, cold Minnesota weather.
