I continued to read this book, and it took weeks. There was something about it that made me want to know what was going to happen to Constance and Sophia... what is strange is, that nothing really notable or surprising ever happens to them. They just live very normal, ordinary lives, even the sister who brings shame to her family by eloping. It's well-written; it didn't strongly inspire me; the characters were alluring without being warm or overly memorable. I am not sure what sort of impact it will have after a few more weeks. I think this book served the purpouse the author intended - just to write a sort of novel that is straight - out life without being overly dramatic.
