Lost Voices (Lost Voices, #1)
by Sarah Porter (Goodreads Author)
Lost Voices is a fairytale, but not like the ones you know. It eerily reminiscent of the dark Grimm tales and Sarah Porter has a way of describing each detail in an oddly haunting way. Her prose was as beautiful as it was horrible. I felt like she honestly portrayed the characters – the mermaids in particular- in a way that wasn’t glossed over. She showed the good but mostly showed the flaws, and I loved that.
The novel started out with a bang, Luce is living with her cruel and abusive uncle after her mother has died. Her father is also out the picture, being lost somewhere in sea. For Luce, joining the mermaids was the best thing that happened to her. But being a mermaid comes with horrible consequences.
I recommend this novel for people who want to delve deeper than the surface, who are ready to be mesmerized and horrified by this stunning story and its deeply flawed characters.
I'd like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this novel, and I can't wait until it comes out so I can get my own physical copy!
