it was ok
bookshelves: too-long, boring
Read in January, 2011

After I loved The Historian, I expected this one to be as good. It wasn't - far from it. The writing was clumsier, and the premise was less interesting and not presented as well. The main character, Andrew (well, the one who carried the plot) was priggish, too prudent, and obnoxious. The secret revealed at the end was not as shocking as I'd expected. I guessed it the first time Marlow looked at the painting.

After reading this 600 page book, I wanted it to be a really good read. It wasn't. And you know what? I'm going to recycle - yes, recycle - this terrible book.
