I didn't like this one quite as much as I liked the Percy Jackson series, but it was still very good. I think Rick Riordan has really hit on something special with the world he has built. It's a breath of fresh air after all the vampire/angel/werewolf books to read a fantasy about Greek (and now Roman) gods. Kids might actually learn something from reading these! He has also mastered the perfect tone to take, sometimes funny, sometimes exciting. His stories are about kids who don't fit it--they're all essentially from "broken homes" with "absentee parents," they have various demigod disabilities (ADD is a demigod trait), and they're put in very difficult situations. I think they're strong characters that set a good example for kids in the real world. I think this series will be enjoyable, and I like that he is introducing a new group of heroes while keeping old favorites (Percy, Annabeth, Clarisse, Thalia, etc.) in the periphery. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
