I am a Jane Austen fan and I am a zombie fan, the two together are as good as cheese and chocolate. Yet it works, it works very well indeed. Grahame-Smith is quite frankly nothing short of a genius, not only does he combine the two subjects which no one in their right mind would put together but he chooses modern day obsessions. Film after film after film with zombies have been shoved in front of us so the author just plucked them up and put them in a setting that was new and refreshing.
The main reason the book works so well is because Grahame-Smith kept the style of Austen's writing. It is classic nineteenth century language, it is polite and unassuming it has a touch of Austen about it yet with zombies.
I recommend it to anyone except my mum.
