I'm not about to write a serious review of a book of such complexity and brilliance but I have a few thoughts that might be helpful. If you're a bicycle commuter like myself this book requires some surgery with a box cutter or whatever. Cut into smaller sections you won't have to carry 10 pounds in your bike bag and you'll probably be reading this thing for a while. I had to buy a second copy because I felt so guilty butchering a book. I made a waterproof cover out of a ziplock bag for the chopped up sections since I read a bit in the Salty Dog bar. But the main thing I can add is for anyone who whether in grade school or even college wrote a book review of a book they sort of ya know like didn't exactly actually read. Once you've finished AtD look up some early reviews of the book in a few major newspapers. You'll see that some reviewers never cite anything beyond the first 100 pages. The book is 1085 pages. Once you've finished AtD you can reflect back on that somewhat dishonest book report you wrote years ago and say 'hey I was just a student not a paid arts reviewer for a major newspaper' and then you can say finally 'I'M FORGIVEN'.
