I recall picking this book up in the library soon after it came out, taking it home, looking at it, and then returning it. I loved Pullman's Sally Lockhart trilogy, but somehow this book didn't seem good. People have told me lately that I really should read it, so I did, and while I appreciate it because Pullman is an excellent writer and creator of worlds, it really didn't hold my attention plot-wise. Maybe if I weren't too lazy to read the next two books? But somehow I just don't see that happening. The daemon concept I liked, the religion allegory I could respect, but it just wasn't very interesting...
