I really enjoyed The Help. A very thought provoking and heart wrenching story of three women living in Mississippi in the early 1960's. This is a fiction novel written by a white woman, which at first made me question the credibility of the character development, however I felt Katherine Stockett really delivered a story about the civil rights movement in the south that gets the mental wheels turning. These were events that DID take place in our country mere decades ago and however shameful it may be we have to face the fact.

The Help touched me so much because like so many others I have remained blissfully ignorant of these (not so distant) historical events and this book was like a slap in the face to me. It is actually sad how much US history being a white woman from the mid west that I have been able to myopically phase out of my way of seeing my country.
