The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3)
by Philip Pullman
by Philip Pullman
This book pales a bit in comparison to the first two books. It does include an incredibly epic journey, and a thought-provoking ending that's meant to say "let's be open-minded." His atheist bent comes out a little bit in this book, but really the impression that I got from it is not so much anti-god as it is simply frustrated that so many bad things have been done in history in the name of religion and in the name of god. The atheist philosophizing is really about 1% of this book, and the rest is a continuation of the plot from the first two books. I wasn't offended at all. The reason that I feel this book pales in comparison to the first two is because he didn't really introduce anything in this book that was as intriguing as his first two books. It was still a good read, though.
