3.5 stars. Far from the author's best novel, but still a quick and decent read. Lani and Erin are longtime best friends who believe in fate; this suddenly presents a problem for Lani when she meets Erin's new crush/boyfriend and believes that fate his brought him into their lives, but for her, as they have way too much in common to be coincidence. With Erin gone for the summer, Lani and Jason start spending almost every single moment together, and Lani has to decide how to handle this developing relationship and balance it with the relationship with her best friend.
I liked the way Lani and Jason's relationship developed. In fact, I'd say the first half, maybe two-thirds, of the book were excellent - the stakes were set, there was tension, there was emotion. However, I think the author missed an opportunity to have the ending take the book from great to amazing; the drama at the end felt manufactured and unrealistic. I can't imagine Lani and Erin's friendship playing out the way it did, and it made me extremely frustrated with both of them. The ending then tied things together all too quickly, leaving me feeling a little cheated.
Overall, while this book isn't life changing or anything, it was sweet. I don't think I'd reread it, but I'm glad I read it once.
