** spoiler alert ** So, I just finished 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. It was pretty good. The book is mostly about Captain Nemo showing the wonders of the deep sea to Prof. Arronax, on board the Nautilus by mistake. The sub goes to different parts of the ocean depths, including the world's biggest oyster bed, sunken Spanish gold fields and the lost continent of Atlantis - all under water. Two or three pages of each chapter are devoted to a catalog of the various underwater life observed by Arronax - not very exciting, but better than two or three chapters out of four (like Moby Dick). Neat things happen, Nemo is a mysterious and brilliant figure, there is some wonder, excitement and drama, and a slight moral creeps up about the destructiveness of modern society. The four main characters are really well-done. The ocean itself was almost a fifth character. Nophoto-u-25x33 Justin, I have never read this book. Just not my cup of tea. And to be honest, I am still not interested. There has to be some really interesting hook for me to read a period piece about the sea.
