** spoiler alert ** Review for Dark Swan #1 and #2... Eugenie is half-human, half-fae. Her life, once simple and clear is now gray and mutable. All she initially wants is to stay out of trouble and earn an honest living defending human kind from the evil demons and gentry who deign to cross over into her world. Unfortunately for her, she has a legacy that overtakes her life, practically overnight. She has people who want to use her on one side and people who don't believe in her on the other. She's very alone in her struggle to determine what is right, who is playing her, and how she is supposed to live her life with all the changes that keep smacking her in the face. She supposedly has a boyfriend who loves her so much, but who also spends most of his time with his ex who happens to be carrying his child. He's not there for her when she needs him and he makes things more difficult when he is there. No matter what Eugenie says about how she needs his strength, I have to say I've never liked Kiyo. I still don't. I hope they stay broken up. I don't think it's a healthy relationship. He seems like a betrayal waiting to happen, on multiple levels. I don't believe he truly loves her. He spends WAY too much time with Maiwenn. Dorian, while openly mischievous and power hungry, is a much more likeable love interest. Also, I do prefer my heroines to be monogamous, so I really hope there's no open relationship crap or sharing that starts to happen.
