I know a lot of people think Morgan is the best thing since sliced bread but I think his books must be more of an acquired taste. I loathed Market Forces so he must be growing on me since this one was ok.

644249 Market Forces is far from Morgan's strongest work. Kudos to you for sticking with him. May I recommend his Altered Carbon if you want to pursue him further?

813871 Hi Jim,

Thanks. I'm going to have to try Altered Carbon since it seems to be, from all the reader reviews, his best. I love mystery noir and sf so perhaps it will work for me.

644249 Altered Carbon is a solid mystery noir book. It's got the same flare for cyberpunk ultra-violence that Morgan shows in Thirteen/Black Man, but messy violence was always part of noir. (I've been re-reading my Chandler.)

Broken Angels is the second book in the series, but is more military in nature, and thus more brutal. It has a lot of fascinating ideas, though.

Woken Furies is almost a redemption story for Kovacs, the main character through all three books.

644249 Shameless plug:

If you enjoy a good noir mystery, may I also recommend my own book, Looking Glass? It draws heavily on those genre roots too.

-Jim
