Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest

"Band of Brothers" by Stephen E. Ambrose is a compelling novel about a group of men who pushed their own limits and overcame adversity and the horrors of war. Easy Company is part of the 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. The men of E Company learned to fight not as a single hero but as a heroic team. Easy jumped into Normandy on the early morning of D Day. From there, E Company traveled throughout northern Europe from Normandy, France to Hitler's Eagles Nest in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Along the way, Easy had to suffer from terrible weather conditions, an insufficeint amount of supplies, and many casualties. These men from different backgrounds became united and created a special bond, a band of brothers.
I enjoyed reading this novel for several reasons. One reason is because I have always been interested in World War II. I always knew about the Army invading the beach on D Day, but I did not know that the paratroopers were there first to clear some of the other resistence. Another reason I enjoyed reading this is because the author, Stephen E. Ambrose, took a lot of time to get the story down into near- perfect detail. He interviewed many of the soldiers who were in Easy and even included some of the actual things they said when they remembered the war. This gave me a certain knowledge of knowing what they felt and thought during their time in Easy. I also enjoyed this book because of the descriptive language. Ambrose described the men in great detail along with their surroundings. He gave the battle scenes excellent explanations and details because he wanted the reader to feel like they were there with E Company. He succeeded in this attempt.
I would recommmend this book to others because it is a fairly easy read. Ambrose explains many of the military terms in a way so the reader can understand what the soldiers are talking about. I would recommend "Band of Brothers" because it mentions real battles and real places in world history. The characters provide quotes about what the time was like for them and how their story affected everyones future. This book is not for younger kids because it mentions killing and swearing and many other bad topics for children. Overall, "Band of Brothers" by Stephen E. Ambrose is a fantastic novel about overcoming adversity and showing the true meaning of brotherhood.
