it was amazing
bookshelves: picture-books, series-books

This 1971 Caldecott honor book of short stories made me giggle at times because of the chidlike emotions and activities these animals portrayed. The text is controlled for readability and yet more interesting than most basals because it creates real images and feelings, it dosen't feel watered down. It is a nice transition from having children read repetitive phrased picture books to early chapter books because there were several instances of repetitive phrasing, but they were woven into the narrative text. There were some topics that were not explaind in detail that could be good discussion points in a classroom, such as hibernation, playing tricks on friends, feelings of inadequacy, motivations for behavior, etc.
