Diana Gabaldon is back in fine form after the shark-jumping of An Echo in the Bone. Now, granted, that may be because this story is set after Dragonfly in Amber and A Custom of the Army, but before Voyager, which leaves me worried for Written in My Own Heart's Blood. I'm only so-so on the Lord John novels, but this one is a nice balance of Lord John AND James Fraser. I listened to the audiobook, which was read by two different narrators; both were fine, but neither voice Jamie as well as Davina Porter does in the Outlander audibooks. Some minor characters from the other novels make appearances (notably, Stefan!), and naturally Diana throws in a dachshund reference as well (love her for that). All in all, good stuff and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
