** spoiler alert ** I'm not sure why I keep reading Karin Slaughter's books, since they are a bit overwritten, the characters are non-characters, they just fit annoying self-help-books' cliches. I guess I enjoy the southern edge of it and the how-sadistic-this-writer-can-get-with-her-own-characters (especially women) fact. The plot is sometimes a keeper and sometimes a no-brainer. Towards the middle of this book, I thought this was a keeper, but then people started acting stupidly and too many of the revelations were forced (I mean Lena's mother was the cleaning lady????!!! really???!!).
A story that lets you step out of it and witness the writer's manipulation is not a good one. I mean I'm ok with having your star hero get killed in a book but the way it happens here makes no sense. He could have died in a million other believable ways throughout this book but the author chose the less believable and most manufactured one. An end page with tears and lots of blood.
Still, I'm gonna read the next in the series because I'm curious.
