Don't know how else this situation could have ended in a decent piece of lit from that era. Not how I would have finished it, but then, I'll never be so famous as Tolstoy. There's a line of thinking that comes up at the end of the book that resounded quite well with me. I was at first impressed that people have been thinking about the religions in such a worldly view for so long, but then I had to take a step back and look at my thinking- why would they NOT? Why should I be so surprised? Did I think I was the first person to ponder the various religions and their accuracy? No. Another reminder of how small we are in this great big universe.
