Devika's review of The Toughest Indian in the World
The Toughest Indian in the World by Sherman Alexie
2/3/2008: Just started reading it. Sherman Alexie's humor and insight is already apparent in the first page. This book has promise.
2/14/2008: Just finished this wonderful book. I'm not into short story collections unless they are really gripping. Jhumpa Lahiri did it well with The Interpreter of Maladies. Sherman Alexie does it well with The Toughest Indian in the World. His sense of humor is charming, rife with racial politics. I laughed out loud several times. There is also a darker edge to this collection, with story, The Sin Eaters, which was well placed in the center of the book. I highly recommend this book!
