Kirsten's review of A Man Without a Country
A Man Without a Country by Kurt Vonnegut
Before i read this book a friend of mine told me not to approach it like a Vonnegut novel. And that was very insightful to me because it isn't a "typical" Vonnegut work of fiction (not to be insulting enough to say that any of them are...) This book was more of a deliberate introspection — a tale of his personal belief system, philosophically, politically, etc. but in the context of his personal life and experiences. yes you could argue that it was maybe a bit raw and disjointed but given the subject matter i find no reason to see this as a negative. this book has a different and more immediate purpose than his other fictional works. i think he was trying to provoke not only an ideology, but action.
