Inept. Boring. Stagnant writing. Horribly derivative and a cliche family situation, along with a fairly angsty relationship with the most perfect woman in the world bar none Kahlan is enough to make me want to pull my hair out.
To be entirely fair, some parts of the novel aren't horrible. There is a thread of a decent storyline in there somewhere, but it was lost beneath below-average writing and sheer WTFness.
