** "Shadow Dance" by Julie Garwood refers perhaps to murderous mysteries moving behind the obvious romance. Most of the story contrasts the rednecks and neighborliness in a small town, with humor. A chapter introducing the manipulative kingpin villain jumps in jarringly out of place. Plot threads of a royal treasure lost in a centuries long Highland blood feud are a disappointing Loch Ness sized red herring. Starting at a McKenna-Buchanan Boston wedding, a rude eccentric McKenna professor provokes a beautiful Buchanan to check his research back in obscure Serenity, Texas. Virile FBI agent Noah also challenges self-controlled Jordan to act with spontaneity. But when the academic jerk shows up dead in her rental car trunk, and the suspect mechanic follows, Jordan calls her FBI brother Nick, who brings his partner Noah. Even after trouble seems wrapped up, danger follows back to the city.
