All the Broken Pieces is the story of Matt, half-Vietnamese, half-American, who was adopted by an American family at the time of the Vietnam War. He knew only war his whole life before coming to America, and he tries to acclimate into a new life.

Yet, the horrors and images of what he left behind are brought full force back to him by prejudice. Even though he is a whiz at baseball and music, his fellow teammates will not accept him...because he came from the country that killed their brothers, their fathers, their sons, their friends. Of course, it is unfair to blame Matt, who was a 10-year-old innocent bystander, but blame they do. That is until they hear the story of All the Broken Pieces that come together to make his life unbearable, at times, just like theirs.
