Ascend (Trylle Trilogy, #3)

** spoiler alert **
The third book in Amanda Hocking's Trylle trilogy was definitely a huge disappointment. After reading the first two books, I thought the story was interesting and had an intriguing storyline but overall, the entire trilogy went downhill fast.
In this third book, Wendy is stuck having to make decisions for the good of the kingdom or for what she really wants in life. You go through her struggles of marrying someone that she doesn't love and falling in love with the enemy. She also struggles with the growing conflict she has with her mother and the warring tensions she has with her father.
Overall, I thought the romance in this story was definitely ridiculous. She falls in love with Loki, a Vittra royal, from the enemy kingdom who she doesn't really have feelings for in the first place. If anything, it seemed like he was a stalker and she ended up magically falling in love with him with no real development of their feelings for each other.
Then, the entire time, I'm thinking that Wendy is in love with Finn, her tracker and that something would happen in the end with him because he is a different class and I thought Wendy would make changes to that once she is Queen but nothing happens between them. Nothing. Apparently, because Finn never fought for Wendy, she gives up on her love for him. However, in the first two books, that is all Wendy can think about is Finn and in comes Loki ... Seriously?
And the cheating was terrible too. I couldn't get over that in the story.
I feel like the author wrote this book about a girl who everyone falls in love with and she apparently gets everyone's cake and eats it too. Pretty much inhales it at this point.
I did not like this book or the series. Definitely not worth anyone's time. Seriously a big fail and huge disappointment. I don't know why there are good reviews for this series because it was just terrible!!

Spot on with the whole love story with Loki. She disregards everything when it comes to him, a person who only flirts yet this is supposed to mean that he is in love with her. But she never does anything with Finn, the person she really does love for two and a half books. Utterly disappointing series.

She so ruined this series with this book! I coiuld not stand Loki! She totally tried to shove him down our throat....she never made us like him....if you ask me he was annoying! Can't believe all the good reviews on here either!
Well, I don't know, there were sometimes throughout the series where she was shown to have some sort of fluttery feelings about Loki...and to be quite honest he's more fun with Finn who can't/won't fight for her.
Everything in your review is so true. The first two books had promise, but this book was really messed up. what the hell was with totally neglecting Finn in this book? As soon as Wendy started cheating on Tove and slept with Loki I couldn't finish this book. the only reason why this book is a 1 and not a 0 is because of Wendy's dramatic character development. Other than that this book has no morals and there are so many holes in the plot.
I compleatly agree with your review. I really couldn't believe what a let down this book was. As soon as Wendy cheated with Loki I wanted to stop reading it. I thought she would be a great queen and out of love for Finn she would make great changes in the kingdom, but turns out she was a little bit slutty and at the end she blamed her shameless behavior on Finn, 'cause "supposedly" he did not fought for her... VERY DISSAPPOINTING.
I wish I had read your review before I had read the book, you're completely right, it was terrible! The most disappointing thing was the love story, I didn’t understand when exactly Loki fell in love with her, and her love for him was a little random especially how her feelings were strongly expressed for Finn. I also didn’t see why she didn’t just use her telekinesis to attack Oren, perhaps I wasn’t paying much attention to Oren’s abilities because I was never sure what they were (apart from being hard to get to), but surely a better use of her powers was just to throw the sword at him? All in all, a waste of time.
I was so dissapointed! Why didn't Wendy just change the rules? It would of helped Willa and Matt aswell! I could rant here forver! Don't get me wrong, I did fall for Loki, but I thought it was ridiculous that Finn and Wendy didn't get her happy ending because:1. ''Oh I slept with him so now I'll love you forever and Finn would never do this'' blah blah blah
2. Apparently to her, Finn 'didnt fight' for her.
Well Finn did fight for her, and her future. Incase you havent noticed, Finn risked his damn life for her, and even though Loki did aswell, which one was for Wendy, and which one was the BEST for Wendy? Team Finn!

I agree completely I loved the first two books. It felt to me like Loki had some sort of magical control over her. Finn was there from the beginning.
I was on board with Finn but read a review of Ascend before I had finished Torn so I knew she would end up with Loki. It was easier for me to see where their relationship was headed. Finn didn't fight for her....Loki was who she needed to be with. He challenged her and was the perfect fit.
i disagree... loki was more then a guy that just flirted with wendy....Dispite how Finn and Wendy felt for each other..it was never meant to be because he wasn't able to love her truly and they would never find happiness together.... Loki really loved Wendy and the the final book brought the whole thing together
OMFG Thank you!!!!I thought i was the only one who found this romance f*cked up!!. I mean seriously why introduce finn and make us fall in love with him and flipping rip our hearts out. Like where the heck did loki come from....
I so so agree with you!I had so much expectations from this last book in the trilogy but it turned out to be shit..she's suddenly "in love" with Loki when she was all about Finn in the first two books...i mean COME FREAKIN ON!!!!!someone wrote that it was like Bella ending up with Mike in the twilight saga..i totally agree...and Loki ....you can go to hell!!!
I totally agree! When I read the first book of this series, I was expecting so much! And what's with everyone giving such a high rating to this book? I really hated this book and agree with your review.
