Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance –Feb. 1st, 2011
4 stars

Archangel’s Consort is the 3rd in Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter magnificent series. This deep and emotional series is one that should definitely be read in order.

Elena is a vampire hunter. Using her heightened sense of smell, she is able to track and eliminate vampires. Dangerous and proud she has recently been transformed into an angel by her lover the powerful archangel Raphael. But their association is not greeted with joy by many, and soon Elena’s sisters are targeted by vampires. But worst of all, Elena and Raphael’s union is frowned upon by his lethal mother. Raphael’s mother is an archangel who went mad, nearly killing her son, and is now somewhere ‘resting.’ The trouble is, she is slowly awakening, and the world is feeling her disapproval, as disasters and strange occurrences are happening all around the world. Unfortunately, the other archangels are not able to contain her powers, and even they are being affected. In addition, the archangels seem to have their own agenda and are more than willing to betray Raphael and Elena for increasing power.

This book delves into the past of both main characters. Elena is tough, but when it comes to her estranged family, very wounded. Raphael also has issues with his mother’s awakening. Due to her long life span, his mother is incredibly strong. And the damage she may visit upon the earth catastrophic. He must deal with the reality of killing her for the greater good. But the wonderful memories of his early life with her before her insanity haunt him. This book is a thrilling and emotional novel, as it deals with the mystery of the mass vampire slayings and the two main characters’ personal struggles who must deal with their past.

Overall, I enjoyed the author’s prior book Archangels Kiss a bit more since I liked the time the author spent on the two main characters’ developing relationship. This book is exciting, but it was more action packed and filled with emotional dilemmas.

Archangel’s Consort is an absorbing and gripping new novel that will be sure to enthrall readers. It reveals more about the two main characters’ past that will be sure to pull readers even more deeply into this series.
