really liked it

I started off with some misgivings based on preconceived notions I had about where the book was going. But Skloot effectively captures the family ethos and the double standard of the time when it came to the treatment of research subject and African-Americans. She also does not gloss over the dysfunctionality of the Lacks family and the struggles they have been through. Some of those passages make hard reading as your heart goes out to them. Also a warning about how ignorance makes you an easy prey to smarter and less scrupulous people. Overall a very effective book that was extremely well written.
