This was one of my "must" read books for 2009. There are several reasons why I held this book in such high regard.

1. It is a great story.
2. The pictures are absolutely incredible.
3. It is an ongoing story that the reader can participate in.

Shreve Stockton spent the early parts of her life in New York and California, but found her true love in Wyoming. She settled outside of the town of Ten Sleep which has a population of about 300. She befriended a part time rancher who kills coyotes for the government. Coyotes are a threat to livestock in the area and are considered a menace. One day, Mike, brought a coyote pup to Shreve and asked her if she would like to adopt it.

Shreve tells a fascinating story of living in a log cabin that had no hot water, holes in the roof, open spaces between the logs of the cabin, and a small stoved for heat. So who says a city girl can't tuff it out?

She names her coyote "Charlie" and she tells a beautiful story of how the two of them, and her cat "Eli", began a life that most of us can only dream about.

The road was not always smooth and straight as Shreve has problems with "Charlie" and her relationship with Mike.

Shreve started to send pictures of "Charlie" to he friends and relatives and before she knew it her blog was receiving over a million hits. The site now includes not only pictures of Charlie but the Wyoming landscape. She also details what is happening in their lives.

I am sure after reading this book you will want to visit her website to participate in the ongoing story. Her site also offers a store where you can purchase calendars featuring pictures of Charlie, T-Shirts, and pictures suitable for framing.
