Paradise Alley (P.S.) by Kevin Baker
My daughter gave me this book and two others by Kevin Baker, which are sort of a trilogy set in NYC. This the only one i have read, but I have started Dreamland. I found Paradise Alley, set against the backdrop of the Civil War draft riots, riveting. His depictions of the conditions faced by working class people are as vivid as they are depressing.
