Gina's review of Gods Behaving Badly: A Novel
Gods Behaving Badly: A Novel by Marie Phillips
This is a wonderful story, with great characters and details, but . . . I was never sucked totally in the way I wanted to be. I hate to say it, but I think the reason is that Phillips is an adequate writer, but nothing special. I give her credit for the ideas and the details, but I feel like--while I don't claim to have the imagination for the story or the discipline to be able to crank out an entire novel--I do have about the same level of writing skill and Phillips.
This book made me kind of sad; it was a sort of proof that I wouldn't be able to write a book I love. (Does that even make sense?)
