What Was She Thinking?: Notes on a Scandal: A Novel by Zoe Heller
Worth reading for many reasons, not the least of which is the narrator, who is one of the best and most unique I've ever come across. The fact that she is an utterly unreliable snake-in-the-grass turns what could've been a simple novel about a seedy, front page headline sort of tale into a creepily absorbing look at the ways in which we all deceive ourselves to one degree or another, and so can never hope to fully understand life while we're living it.
