Four and a half Stars
Stacy Justice has recently moved back to Amethyst, Illinois, a town which has been likened to the Twilight Zone. Common places were the Black Opal, Muddy Water Coffee Shop and the Down and Dirty. She’s a reporter who’s looking for the next big story yet she’s assigned the Ice Lizard Races. But, when the Black Opal catches fire, she’s hot on the trail for the arsonist. Uh oh, she’s the prime suspect. Not good.
Her boyfriend Leo, is the policeman in town. He’s sure she didn’t do it, but if she didn’t who did?
Cinnamon, Stacy’s cousin, ran the Black Opal, but she didn’t own it. She did want to remodel it but fire wasn’t quite what she had in mind.
To help Stacy and Cinnamon find the real arsonist, there are the Geraghty Girls, Birdie, Stacy’s grandmother and her two aunts. They are the town witches.
Then, throw in the dead body hidden in the brick walls of the Black Opal and now you have a murder. The insurance inspector doesn’t have a clue what to do now.
With a colorful cast of characters including Thor and Moonlight, Stacy’s muses, really her dog and cat, chaos ensues.
Barbra Annino presents us with the gift of a very entertaining story. Lots of humor, wonderful character descriptions, great one liners and a plot that will keep you guessing. You won’t want to miss this book, it’s a keeper. And, don’t miss the next installment of the Stacy Justice mysteries, Bloodstone. I’m sure it will be just as good as Opal Fire.
