Ship Breaker recently won the Printz award. It was a fun adventure set in a future where old oil tankers are beached on the shore, gangs of scavengers salvage whatever they can get off them, and a brutal loyalty code keeps order in a lawless society. When a sleek modern wave hydroplaner crashes off the point, Nailer must decide whether to continue scavenging - there is easily enough there to set him up for life in his known world - even after he discovers a survivor, or help the survivor return to her privileged life and maybe reach somewhere himself that before was unimaginable.
