really liked it
bookshelves: non-fiction

A disturbing story of a child rejected by his mother, a child without even a name - It. What is particularly horrifying is that his sibling brothers were given normal love and attention, so the abuse, punishment, starvation and lack of affection were restricted to one person in a 'normal' household. One is aware of this type of behaviour in cultures with a strong belief in witchcraft and fundamentalist religion, where the child is believed to harbour an evil spirit but these parents seem to have been mainstream Americans. He was ultimately saved by careful fostering.
