really liked it
bookshelves: contemporary, pomo, favorites, literature, read-in-2015, strange, underrated
Read from December 10 to 14, 2015

Very well written and enjoyable, but too much brain, not enough soul, in the final count. I know the writer is capable of soul because there is precisely one emotional/deeper passage in this book- a footnote about a father and son sharing taste in ties and how much this small matter meant to the son. That was moving- this book COULD have used minutiae like that to point out the poignancy in the smallest things- that would have given it "soul" - sadly, it went more for arch intellectualism and humor. But books need a soul to truly stay with me.
