** spoiler alert ** The life of a great man from the perspective of that man. Franklin's autobiography is written not just as an account of the events that had some import to him, but also as a guide for the up-and-coming self-made man. Franklin focuses on the ways that he taught himself various subjects without going through proper schooling, how he dedicated himself to what he considered "virtues," and how he used humility to rally otherwise unwilling parties behind his causes.

Full of famous historical events, insightful, even humourous at times.

I was a little disappointed that Franklin did not get much into some of his dealings with the French as a diplomat, or more of the workings of the Revolutionary period (of which he was a major player).
