I started reading this book back in 2005 during a Harry Potter release party at my local book store. (Which should tell you how exciting the release party was, but I digress.) I wasn't able to find it again until last week, when the same store had it on the bargain book shelf for $3.
Like the author, my view of London has been shaped by the numerous books I've read that take place there. Unlike the author, I haven't yet been able to see if my "imagined London" is as good as the reality.
Quindlen does a wonderful job of showing how London has shaped English Literature, and how those same books have in turn shaped the city itself.
