Sabina, Adam and Giguhl head to New Orleans in an attempt to rescue Sabina's sister in this book, and I'm not sure if it's the book's new locale or maybe Giguhl went to some stand-up classes, but Green-Eyed Demon is sharper, funnier, and more action-packed. The tightly-nit story will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning, promising yourself you'll put it down at the end of the this chapter... or maybe the next.
Sabina is still our star, and she really shines throughout this book. The raw and real emotions you'll see from Sabina this time around are exactly what I had been waiting for. Watching her transformation over the last 2 books was great, but seeing her "own it" in this book really took the cake. But Giguhl and a few of the new characters might just steal the show if you're not careful. There's a voodoo high priestess who drives a yellow gremlin, her cross-dressing assistant who's stage name is Pussy Willow, and a cajun butcher who says things like "from the rooter to the tooter" when referring to his resourcefulness with meat, to name a few. There are so many hilarious one-liners sprinkled throughout the story I can just imagine that Wells is having a damn fine time writing them. The overall mood is still serious and Sabina is still tough-as-nails, but the secondary characters are equally shiny here....and very very enjoyable.
The pacing of this book was the best yet from Wells. The story is full of action and anticipation and general kickass-ness. Sabina and Adam make a top-notch duo, and watching them come together to fight their battles, both outside and inside the bedroom, was maybe my favorite part. Their relationship ended up setting a deliciously frustrating pace of it's own, but the plot and story-line hold their own. There are several unexpected surprises and revelations that cause the ending to leave you both satisfied, and wanting more....how hard is that to accomplish?!
Bottom Line: Green-Eyed Demon is the spotlight of the series and will leave you anxious for the next installment.
