This book has a great premise and only fell short in the characterizations. I was terribly disappointed in the author's mishandling of the relationship between "Connor's" parents when the aliens forced the issue of Connor's Dad's tenure. The whole "Marcie" thing was unclear and confusing. Not only did it slow down the movement of the story, it was unnecessary and amatuerish. Dan and Katelyn (the parents) became shallow and distracting at a point when they should have stepped up to be more their gifted son's advocates. The story line didn't require they be anything more than the people they were. The mom, Katelyn, was terribly shallow when things got tough and became a person that bored me to tears. Also, Lauren Glass, the empath, was just plain weird. We didn't need to know so much about her needs and desires where her "boyfriends" were concerned.

The story could have used a more sustained line of action, a little less of everyone's "head" story and more clarity in who was doing what to accomplish whatever their assigned task had been.

Again, I liked the over-all premise but execution was a little sloppy.
