It's quite complicated thinking about this book to be honest. When I read its predecessor "Trainspotting", I was taken aback by how ground-breaking it was, even if I did read it 14 years after its publication. When I found out that a sequel existed, I was quite curious as to how it could continue because to me, "Trainspotting" always ended quite definitively.

Having read the book, I think I was completely wrong. I couldn't possibly anticipate the way the characters lives would've gone.

I first bought the book in 2008 after I'd finished the original and didn't quite know what to expect. I got about 70ish pages in and wasn't enjoying it at all. I think the focus on Sick Boy irritated me. Only when Begbie started to gain more focus did it become more interesting. I think I put it down and didn't pick it up again until about 2 weeks ago. I tried reading from the point in which I'd stopped but that wasn't working because I'd forgotten. So I read it from the start and was determined to push through it!!!

One thing I found difficult was getting back into the rhythm of the dialect, which is bizarre seeing as where I live, that's how people speak. It's a different story reading the dialect than saying it!

Up until last night I was on the train home from London and I'd taken the book with me. I was only at page 182 last night (Wednesday 9th Feb) and suddenly it got INTERESTING. Which in itself was interesting because the whole concept of them making a porn movie was so dull and banal to me. As the book went on and you got various different characters perspective and each time, my feelings for the characters continued to shift and change meaning that the story took on amazing new life at every turn, something I've never experienced while reading before.

I also think it was just plain old mean to leave it at a cliff-hanger. Or is it a cliff-hanger? I can't make it out. All I know is that I don't think there's any more need for a sequel. But still. Well done.

Paul Copland This isn't as engaging as Trainspotting and Begbie annoys me, but damn it, I'll finish it!!!

Paul Copland This is ridiculously long. I have the worst attention span ever, but it's never affected my reading and now I can safely say, it's beginning to. I'm trying to formulate a plan. I just read 16 pages and it took a while. So if I clear 5 of those nice little chapters per night, I could be finished quite promptly. Hmmm....decisions decisions!
