The pig had been released. The large wheel was exstinguished hiding behind it a partial view of the Church in Piazza San Marco. I felt the world close in on me, the pressing throng moving everywhere and nowhere all at once. An errant elbow landed between my shoulder blades. I collapsed -- pain pinching my nervous system, exquisite moving pain. I began to crawl. my hands stepped on, swollen and cracked before I managed to pull myself upright as the crowd began to disperse a little. Vaporetti and gondole filled on the horizon, a few still docked. The hitchcokian brids flying higher begininning their retreat into the night spiers as the sun fades over the horizon. I gazed at the boats and the expanse of water between Venice and the Lido. I breathed into my swollen fist...more
