really liked it
bookshelves: sf-fantasy
Read in January, 2011

Set between DROWNING CITY (which I didn't read) and the upcoming KINGDOMS OF DUST (excerpt in back), this is remarkable for being so closely focused on colors, textures and particularly scents--and yet always moving right along with incidents and revelations. The ghosts, demons and vampires aren't the typical sort either. My only issue is that it's such a sad story that even the lighter and more joyful moments (the sex scenes, for instance) seem sort of pale.
