I'm convinced Mayer wrote this book with all the children who have ever heard a weird noise coming from the closet at night in mind. This text is effective in its delivery and is so short that developing readers can independently read this selection in their spare reading time. This story highlights many feelings (i.e. scared, courage, determination) and these feelings can be discussed as a class. Addressing the feelings can help teachers to understand where their students are coming from and also let them understand that having all these feelings is ok.
