Chip's review of The Rainbow
The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence
I recall this one being most excellent and I want to read it again sometime soon. Reading Chatterley recently reminded me again why I dig DH so much. The perfect combination of philosophy, sex, nature, the fall of nature and the English countryside...it all comes together so perfectly. I even read books by Geoff Dyer that are supposed to be about Lawrence...I am so obsessed.
Back to the Rainbow. Ken Russell (of course) made a movie of it but I have yet to see it. Is it good? Anyone know?

Started re-reading this Thanksgiving. Makes good late November reading, as now I am in the beginning where Brangwen's child is about to be born and he has just recently married the Polish woman and is living at the Marsh (just got through a very Fall description of the hard ground and falling rain).
What strikes me first is how much of the earth DH's writing is here: like the wine appreciator's idea of 'terroir', this is truly of-the-earth and of its place. While at times it fee...more
