This was a bit rocky in the beginning character wise, especially in the case of Allegra, whom I took to be the cookie cutter "beautiful, feisty, free-spirited" heroine, but I stuck with it and and she wasn't as bad as I thought she'd be. Lazar was your typical tortured hero, but a very, very enjoyable one. What really made this book stand out from all the other historical romances out there for me was the fact that there was some kind of underlying plot and depth to the UST taking place. Very enjoyable read. Not the most thought provoking literature by any chance, but better (and much more memorable) than just your average forgettable romance.

Be warned though, to really get to the meat of the story stick with it for the first few chapters.
