I liked this, but not nearly as much as I did The Blue Sword. None of the characters ever really grew on me, and I felt like the pacing was really off in places. McKinley confuses me in that way--the writing will be absolutely breathtaking and I'll find myself completely sucked in and in love with the story and then, just as suddenly, I find myself completely bored with what's happening and skimming for pages on end. And I don't feel like she's great at describing the action scenes; those always seem to end too quickly and never manage to actually make me worry or feel excited about what's happening. Still, I did enjoy this one for the most part, I just didn't FEEL as much as I would have liked to. I found the plot line and characters of The Blue Sword much more to my taste, that's all. I guess McKinley's just kind of hit or miss for me. So far there are enough hits to outweigh the misses though, so I'll keep working my way through them!
