it was amazing
bookshelves: abuse, addiction, alcoholism, death, divorce, friendship, grief, high-school, michael-printz-honor, secrets, young-adult
Read in January, 2011

I think choosing between this and Ship Breaker, which won the Michael Printz award this year, must have been very difficult. This book deserved being an honor book and more!

Vera- hard working high school senior trying to deal with her love/hate relationship with life-long neighbor and once best friend, Charlie, who has died in the previous year.
Charlie- now dead, keeps haunting Vera to tell the truth about a tragic incident to clear his name
Mr. Dietz- Vera's dad, a recovered alcoholic, zen student and accountant, trying to fill the void of Vera's mom leaving them when Vera was 12.
The Pagoda- an inanimate pavilion which overlooks a city and is witness to generations of human interactions.
AND....Cindy/Sindy former stripper/mom, wife beating Mr. Kahn, the treehouse, Jenny Flick and the Detentionheads, James and Pagoda Pizza...
