A fun story of a young widow who decides she needs to break away from her life working in a busy LA hospital and takes a job in the mountains in a tiny little town. The only thing is the job and perks she was promised turn out not to be quite as represented. The doctor she's supposed to work for as a practical nurse/midwife doesn't want any help, the cabin she's been provided rent free is falling apart, and she decides the whole thing was a huge mistake. When a newborn baby is left on the doctor's doorstep, however, she decides to hang around for a few days--which stretches into months. Meanwhile, Jack, an retired Marine who owns the bar and grill across the street from the doctor's house/office offers the hand of friendship and though she is still in mourning for her husband, who was murdered in a botched convenience store robbery, a friendship blossoms between them and turns to more.

Based on who had endorsed the story, I had hoped it would be clean, but found there was a bedroom scene or two I had to skip past. There was no major violence and limited swearing. A fun story with interesting characters. Well worth a read, though not so engrossing that I'll be likely to pick it up for a second pass.
